Medicine Buddha holding a Medicine Herbs

The Medicine Buddha depicted carrying a bowl with herbs is believed to cure all kinds of diseases, help people release sickness and overcome disasters. The Medicine Buddha is seated in the padmasana, or lotus, position with both his feet tucked under his body in an asana of deep meditation. His right  hand is extended with his palm facing upwards in the vitarka mudra, a hand gesture of teaching.

The Medicine Buddha is recommended for those who are prone to sickness or wish for better health.
