The West is governed by Amitabha Buddha, who presides over the fire element and embodies perception. His association with the eye and the ability to "see" reflects his role. Known as the Compassionate Buddha, Amitabha eradicates attachment, fosters unconditional love, and enhances the wisdom of non-attachment. His symbol is the padma, or lotus.
